H.E. Som Piseth opens the Don Bosco Green Alliance Five Thousand Trees Program in Kep

His Excellency Som Piseth, Governor of Kep Province, opened officially the Five Thousand Trees Program at Don Bosco Kep on 28th August 2024 with the assistance of different authorities from the province and district halls and the Don Bosco Kep academic community. The program has the intention that 500 students and teachers of the school plant, each one, ten trees in their houses and villages as a way to promote the care for the environment in rural and indigenous communities. The local government supported the idea of Don Bosco and joined on it by donating 5 thousand saplings on the occassions.

Students and teachers have to lead their own program of sapling planting in their own community where there is a process:

  1. The student has to meet their own family and neighbours and give to them a talk about the importance of environment, the care for the Common House (Mother Earth) and how keeping nature is also of great benefit for the human family.
  2. The planting program of at least ten saplings must be done with the community, trying that there is also biodiversity on the saplings and integrating it with the native flora around the village.
  3. Registring the domestic event with photos or videos.
  4. Taking care of the saplings until they are grown trees integrated as full members of the community.

The governor of Kep suggested also that schools in Kep could open processes of tree plantig in the campuses, promoting a green environment that is healthy for humans and keepig the balance with nature.
